I have a confession to make. Don't worry, it's not a bombshell. I love produce. All kinds of produce. I always have. I was that strange three year old who would not only devour their spinach, but then have the audacity to ask for seconds. There were very few vegetables I disliked while growing up, with the exception of raw tomatoes. Thankfully I got over my aversion to raw tomatoes.
Several years back, I made the decision to become a vegetarian. What has ensued is a (mostly delicious) journey with my family and friends, whom I happily cook for. Becoming a vegetarian has also been one of the most liberating experiences, mainly because I have challenged myself to find new, interesting, and delicious ways to prepare produce. I have discovered the farmer's markets near me, and have become a member of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm share, both of which have enhanced my appreciation of produce.
Many people have said I have a fall back career in cooking. It's probably true, but regardless of my ultimate career path, I still want to share my passion for cooking and produce with others. Many friends have asked for my recipes or ideas, and I am always happy to share, if I remember what I did. I often create my meals at random, sans recipe. I typically do not write my creations down, much to the disappointment of those enjoying them. Except for baking, I rarely measure things out exactly. Blame my mother.
I have come to the realization that perhaps the reason many people do not eat produce in the quantities we all should is because produce can be kind of daunting, and simply boiling or steaming it can make it bland and lifeless. I think that can all be changed.
That is the purpose of Forks At The Ready. To collect produce-centric recipes and dishes for your use and enjoyment. Regardless of your diet, you can always use more produce in your life. I hope that my blog will make it easier for you to do so!
So welcome, and I hope you come back!
